Workshop17 Tabakhuis adds a New Power Installation

You business never has to be in the dark again with W17 Tabakhuis’ newly commissioned generation inverter and a 100kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery. This installation augments the existing 82kW rooftop solar PV installation to ensure that the Workshop-17 coworking members are never impacted by the ongoing load shedding problems consistently plaguing the country.

Workshop17 Tabakhuis brings a sustainable power solution to all our coworking members with their new 50kW hybrid inverter that consumes solar power during load shedding and an SMA 50kW grid-tied inverter, which shuts down during load shedding. The system has been designed to ensure that the building can function at up to 90% of its peak summer load during extended load shedding hours. The new system transforms Workshop17 Tabakhuis into a green-powered, coworking space that keeps members connected even when loadshedding kicks in. No generator noise, no diesel fumes, just pure productivity.

For those extra hot summer months, the system allows up to 90% of peak AC during load shedding - affecting only a few ground floor AC units during peak load periods. The carefully renovated buildings open core lets cool air from the upper levels drop down to the ground floor to ensure the high ceiling, thick-walled old building remains comfortable for all of its members - keeping them cool when things get a little heated at work.

The system was installed and commissioned by locally based Emvelo Renewable Solutions (Pty) Ltd.
